The Upper East Side

“Gossip Girl here. Your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite. And who am I? That’s one secret I’ll never tell. You know you love me, xoxo…Gossip Girl”

Every Monday night, this intro would be posted to Facebook and Twitter over and over again. It was the beginning of an era of rich girls, clothes and the Upper East Side.

Everything I know, I learned it from Gossip Girl. It started out as one of the most talked about books in middle school. We passed each other the books when one finished the previous one. We all talked about it and loved the lives these high school students lived. We all had someone to relate to.

Blair: the bulimic mean girl that everyone wanted to be like.
Serena: the gorgeous, tall, blonde model type.
Little J: the freshman designer who dates older guys.
Eric: the gay friend everyone one wants to have/hot older brothers Blair drunkenly hooks up with (book version).
Dan Humphrey: the artsy outsider.
Nate Archibald: the hot, quiet, athletic one.
and then there’s Chuck Bass: the arrogant, rich, douche bag everyone hates.

When the show came out, it was all the rave. Every high schooler was talking about it. We watched it every week, constantly talking about the places they go, the clothes they wear and of course the guys they date.

As the show goes on, the characters grow, and we grow with them. The evolution of the characters and GG was ended too soon. It was a constant war between Chuck and Blair, Dan and Serena, Blair and Jenny, Chuck and Bart. The scheming taught every single one of us how to use our abilities for power. It was all about who was better than the other.

My 6 years of Gossip Girl experience changed everything:

The Upper East Side/Brooklyn
The 3 B’s: Bendel’s, Barney’s and Bergdorf’s.
The Lion
The Palace Hotel
The Empire
The Ivies: Yale, Dartmoth, Brown, Harvard and Columbia
Bow ties, ascots and THE scarf
Audrey and Tiffany’s
School uniforms
Private education
Fashion: Oscar, Marchesa, Hugo, Stella and of course THE headbands

It gives people a sense of what being and Upper East Sider and the life of a socialite is like. The familiarity with the show meant you knew all of the designers and places to be. Our life soon became about who had the best of the best. We wanted Louboutin’s and Louis Vuitton, and we would stop until we got them. We wanted our parties to be as awesome as theirs.

Serena’s late nights and early mornings became a part of our lifestyle. The show made it socially acceptable to do the things that she did. It was daring and scandalous. Life became all about scandal, games, scheming and brunch.

Every girl in America dreamt of living the life they live and with the countless amount of money.

The ending of the show is the start to an era, where girls will have to learn to live up to the Gossip Girl legacy.

What is Happening to the World?

5. Jusitn Bieber and Selena Gomez officially announce their break-up. But did jealously play a role in their split? Most would say yes. They are both always working and away from each other. They are young and have plenty of time to find love.

4. Bloody Face is revealed on American Horror Story: The Asylum.

Ryan Murphy, one of the creators of AHS, tweeted on Wednesday right before this weeks episode premiered.

The turnout of the episode was definitely the most shocking of the season. When Dr. Thredson, Zachary Quintero, was revealed as Bloody Face-the mass murder in the season-the season has made a turn no one was ready for.

3. Carly Rose Sonenclar KILLED it on X-Factor. The 13-year-old sand “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion for Diva Week.

As stated before at the judge’s house, Will.I.Am said she is possessed, and after this performance Simon Cowell said there is no way she can be human. L.A. Reid believes they have found the winner of the X-Factor.

2. Jon Bon-Jovi’s daughter was arrested after a heroin drug overdose. Stephanie Rose Bongiovi was taken to the hospital after a friend in her dorm room at Hamilton College in Upstate New York called 911 reporting a drug overdose.

According to TMZ, after she was released, police arrested her for possession of heroin, marijuana and criminally using drug paraphernalia.

1. The Twilight Saga has come to an end. On Monday, the Twilight family came together to walk the red carpet one last time.

This is the first time Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson walked on the carpet together since their split, and are rumored to be back together.

The last three Twilight movies are in the top 10 for all-time midnight premieres.

The movie open Friday at 12 a.m.

Song of the Day

One Direction has always been fun to listen to, but after watching their documentary “Year in the Making”, I have been inspired by them. These guys are truly great, and it’s awesome to hear guys who have such talent.

Your hand fits in mine
Like it’s made just for me
But bear this in mind
It was meant to be
And I’m joining up the dots with the freckles on your cheeks
And it all makes sense to me

I know you’ve never loved
The crinkles by your eyes
When you smile
You’ve never loved
Your stomach or your thighs,
The dimples in your back at the bottom of your spine
But I’ll love them endlessly

I won’t let these little things slip out of my mouth
But if I do
It’s you
Oh, it’s you they add up to
I’m in love with you
And all these little things

You can’t go to bed without a cup of tea
And maybe that’s the reason that you talk in your sleep
And all those conversations are the secrets that I keep
Though it makes no sense to me

I know you’ve never loved
The sound of your voice on tape
You never want
To know how much you weigh
You still have to squeeze into your jeans
But you’re perfect to me

I won’t let these little things slip out of my mouth
But if it’s true
It’s you,
It’s you they add up to
I’m in love with you
And all these little things

You’ll never love yourself half as much as I love you
And you’ll never treat yourself right, darling, but I want you to.
If I let you know I’m here for you
Maybe you’ll love yourself like I love you, oh.

And I’ve just let these little things slip out of my mouth
‘Cause it’s you,
Oh, it’s you,
It’s you they add up to
And I’m in love with you
And all these little things

I won’t let these little things slip out of my mouth
But if it’s true
It’s you,
It’s you they add up to
I’m in love with you
And all your little things

Maroon for the Ledet Family

On Wednesday night, Southlake Carroll hosted a candle light vigil for the Ledet men.

In honor of the family, people are wearing maroon ribbons to show their support.

On Saturday, October 6, tragedy struck this beautiful family, losing their father, uncle and two brothers, Paul and Mason in a plane crash. They need all of the prayers they can get. Wear Maroon on Tuesday to show your support-as the Ledet family was traveling to Mississippi to see Texas A&M play Ole’ Miss.

Len Ledet was a dentist in Southlake, where he treated elderly patients. He also founded the Eta Upsilon chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity at Texas A&M.

Paul Ledet, 17, attended Souhtlake Carroll Senior High where he played lacrosse.

Mason Ledet, 13, was an 8th grader at Carroll Middle School.

The Ledet men are survived by two daughters, Lauren and Alyson, and wife/mother.

Distracted in Class

As I sit here in Consumer Market Behavior, I find myself trying to listen but I’m distracted by all of the technology around me.

I can see someone’s email, Facebook, texting conversations, texting under the desk, people studying for a test, someone is doing homework, and we are taking notes on Chapter 7-whatever that is. I don’t even own the book for this class.

No one pays attention. We talk about football at the beginning of every class. Don’t get me wrong, I love the professor, and he knows what he is talking about, but I just have way too much to distract me.

I’m looking for internships during class, trying to pay attention, looking at Pinterest-studying Fashion Week styles, checking my Twitter and Facebook and looking through my connections on LinkedIn.

You see, even though I am distracted in class, I’m doing things to further my knowledge in the things I want to do with my life.

One time in class, I sat here watching videos on Photoshop, trying to learn new ways to edit my photos. I made an invitation for a birthday party. Today, I’m working on a brochure for work.

I know I’m not the only one having this problem. We’re halfway through the semester, and I have NO IDEA what is going on in any of my classes.

I want to know how you’re distracted.
